The zero waste movement is one of the biggest lifestyle trends of recent years. For those who may not know it is the movement of changing your lifestyle by reducing consumption, minimising waste and maximising recycling.
Traveling is full of disposable products from inflight meals to takeaways, making it a challenge to remain zero waste while on the go. But, we have some tips that will help you along the way!
Go paperless
With the evolution of smart phones, it is now easier than ever to travel paperless. Rather than printing your boarding passes, why not use a digital pass on your phone? Most travel lines have an accessible app which make this process even easier!

Take your own water bottle
In the UK alone the average person uses 150 plastic water bottles a year (Independent). Disposable water bottles are not only bad for the environment but, they also require a significant amount of energy to manufacture them. As we produce over 300 million tons of plastic each year, it is important to reduce single use plastic (Plastic Free Challenge). By refilling your own water bottle at refill stations, taps (depending on where you travel) or water fountains you will be reducing waste and saving money. If you are traveling within the UK there is now a great Refill App, which allows users to see where the nearest water refill facility is.

Take your own reusable shopping bags
By taking your own shopping bags you won’t have to resort to using plastic bags, which are notorious for being bad for the environment. More than often plastic bags end up in a landfill or places where animals become entangled or eat them. Using your own reusable bags are always handy while traveling as they can double up and become useful tools for aiding with packing. Plus, many shops charge extra for plastic bags so you will be saving money!

Soap and shampoo bars
Soap and shampoo bars are becoming a popular alternative to bottled liquids, it is said they last up to three times longer. These bars are easier to travel with, they take up less room in your luggage and there is no opportunity for your liquids to leak over your clothes! And, there is no plastic wastage.

Walk as much as possible
During your travels walk as much as possible, you will get an immersive travel experience! And, its good for you which is always a positive factor. If there is a distance which you can’t walk, why not use public transport? This is also a method of reducing your carbon footprint. Z
