Sizzix are now holders of a world record! After a real team effort, from all our staff and designers to our Sizzix community, we were able to succeed in our biggest challenge yet!
Ellison Global Social Media Manager, Charlie Bull, explained his inspiration behind attempting a world record, stating “handmade and crafts is so popular today and we really wanted to show off how easy and fun it is for everyone. We thought of different ideas, but nothing that we thought shouted about how quirky and easy making is. That’s when we looked into breaking a world record. We saw that the Largest Collection for Papercrafts record was set at 400 and we knew we could have a go at breaking it.”
This led to a campaign that got everyone involved in papercraft, from beginners to experienced makers, helping to increase our brand awareness and consumer engagement with a bang! We used our blogs and social media platforms to promote our world record attempt and asked consumers to send in their makes. From this, we received entries from all over the world, both individual efforts and from craft groups who held their own workshops – consolidating our world-wide Sizzix community! Entries included a range of papercrafts, from cardmaking to papercraft frames and boxes.
With entries flooding in from across the globe, Charlie recounted the experience, explaining “normally counting to 400 isn’t that hard, but I was so nervous during the official count I kept losing count at around 32! We eventually got there though, and we had final count of 504.” This had to be confirmed by an official count including individual photos and external witnesses who were from our chosen charity of the year, Nightingale House, who deliver care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Once the evidence had been verified by Guinness World Records, we then received a certificate stating we had broken the world record, at 504 papercrafts, 104 over our benchmark!
Overall the whole experience took over a year, with a month’s long promotion, until we were finally able to claim that we now hold the title for the world’s Largest Collection of Papercrafts! Charlie expresses his gratitude to everyone who took part; “I just wanted to say a huge thanks to Sizzix team for getting involved, Nightingale House Hospice for being our external referees and to all the Sizzix makers. It was awesome to see so many people get involved and send us in their makes to be part of the World Record attempt. Thank you so much!”.
Off the back off this success the team are looking forward to more exciting company challenges in the upcoming year, as well as defending our world record status!
