Here’s the full interview with Rebecca Jones:
Introduce yourself and your role?
I’m Rebecca, the Marketing Communications Team Leader. I manage our charity work here at Ellison Europe. Out of all the areas of marketing I manage, our charity work is by far one of my favourite responsibilities as it gives me a great sense of pride.
Who is Ellison Europe’s chosen Charity of the Year?
Our chosen charity of the year for 2018 is Nightingale House Hospice, a North Wales based hospice who provide specialist palliative care, completely free-of-charge, for patients and their families in our local and surrounding areas. The palliative care is for patients with specific life-limiting illness and is provided by a trained team at the hospice as well as ongoing emotional support for their relatives and carers.
Why did you choose Nightingale House for 2018?
The reason we chose to support Nightingale House is because we wanted to give something back to the community that we’re a part of. We really admire the work that Nightingale House do. They must raise three million pounds a year to keep the hospice running, relying mainly on grants and the support of fundraisers and local businesses. We wanted to ensure we could help support them and showcase the amazing work they do every day!
How have you been supporting Nightingale House so far in 2018?
All of our charity plans for 2018 have not only been planned to help support Nightingale House the best we can but also provide everyone at Ellison Europe with fun and rewarding fundraising events to take part in. We wanted to make sure we were working together as a team to achieve our goals. We’ve done this through organised office fundraisers like our bake sale and bingo afternoon, team challenges like the 2018 Snowdon challenge and though organising support like coffee and craft morning and training Nightingale House staff on how to use our donated products.
How much money have Ellison Europe raised collectively so far?
We’ve raised over £5,183.97 for Nightingale House so far in 2018! Which we are really happy with. Our biggest fundraiser so far was the Snowdon challenge, where a team of 20 of the office and warehouse staff tackled the challenge of climbing the highest peak in Wales. We raised over £2468, which was way over our expected £500 target, and was matched by the CEO of the company to raise just under £5,000 from the challenge.
How have you incorporated the creativity of Ellison Europe into your support?
With the nature of our business being crafting, we definitely wanted to ensure we utilised our creative skill base to help Nightingale House. The charity has multiple shops across the local area, which sell a range of donated items from games and toys to clothing and furniture. To help support these shops, we’ve been working with the team at Nightingale House to help upcycle their donated furniture items to increase the probability of raising more profit from the furniture pieces. Our first project raised £70 more than expected, which goes straight to the charity.
What are the plans for future charity support at Ellison?
We’re really looking forward to continuing our work with Nightingale House and further charities in the future. We enjoy creating new fundraising ideas and we’re looking to progress each year in our support.
