The Pantone colour of the year has a significant impact on industry trends, from retail to marketing. The colour of 2017, Greenery, featured heavily in home décor and craft industry trends throughout the year. The Pantone colour for 2018 has just been announced as 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple which symbolises originality, ingenuity, vision and forward thinking.
The colour has been heavily influenced by the night sky, which is symbolic of what is possible. It’s become the colour of artistic brilliance, with artists like Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix bringing the colour to the forefront of Western Pop. It’s also associated with calm and mindfulness practices. Purple toned lighting is used in meditation rooms and other calm and quiet spaces to help with energising.
The Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute, Laurie Pressman said: “The Pantone Colour of the Year has come to mean so much more than “what’s trending”. It’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today”.
We’re looking forward to seeing how this colour effects the craft industry throughout 2018. Watch out for how our creative designers use the new colour of the year in a variety of ways to create inspiring craft projects.
