Here at Ellison Europe we have a team of dedicated and talented designers that create all our designs for our products that we distribute across the globe. We have sat down with Sophie Guilar who has been instrumental in our design team over the past three years supporting with product designs, projects and more.
Sophie has answered some questions about what her daily work life is like and what she enjoys most about her role!
Here’s what Sophie had to say:
When did you join the Ellison team?
I started working for Ellison in February 2015.
What does your role entail?
My role entails a wide range of tasks, from die designs and making projects for trade shows and marketing events to trend research and pattern design. The majority of my time is spent co-ordinating and supporting the team of designers with their day to day projects/tasks like packaging and product development artwork.
What makes your role unique?
Being able to create pattern designs is by far my favourite aspect of my role and is what makes my role unique. This is what I trained to do throughout University so whenever I get chance to create fabrics or patterns I thoroughly enjoy it.
What’s your usual work day like?
My usual day consists of ensuring the team have all the information and tools they need to complete their tasks. Once I have made sure the team are working on the correct projects and are happy I can focus on my own work which will either be design work, trend and market research or making projects for events. Each day is never the same and different projects and task can come in daily.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Fabric and pattern designs are the most enjoyable aspect of my role as well as working with such a nice team.
What is your current favourite making trend?
I love macramé and colourful textured woven wall hangings for home décor projects. I haven’t had chance to attempt these myself yet.
If you could spend one day working in another part of the business, which department would you choose and why?
I would choose marketing communications, and I would want to support with photographing and filming projects for Sizzix. I think the quick make videos look so fun and creative and would like to learn something new within the creative world.
What is your favourite die design you have created and why?
My favourite die design so far would be the Large Dream Catcher (662548) from Chapter 2 2018 collection because I like the fact you can use it for home décor and upcycling projects to stencil with. But I do have a few favourites coming out in 2019!
