Here at Ellison everyone gets the opportunity to use one working day of the year as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) day. Our teams get the chance to use this day to go help out a charity either on their own or along with a team to help out in the community.
Our supply chain team decided to utilise their day to go and help out at Freshfields Animal Sanctuary. This sanctuary is a community focussed non-profit making charitable organisation caring for abandoned, abused and unwanted domestic and small farm animals along with sick and injured wildlife.
They have recently built a new centre for rehoming/rehabilitating dogs with severe behavioural issues which was due to be unveiled on the 22nd April 2022. However, the entrance to the complex and a number of the original buildings were in a poor way. So, the Ellison supply chain team were tasked with freshening up these buildings and entry point prior to the new centre event. The team painted fences, buildings, sanded and varnished furniture and weeded the area.

Liam Hickson our Quality Assurance Manager said: “The reason we chose Freshfields is because animal sanctuaries do not receive any government funding, due to this they struggle a lot and must find funding from private doners. The fear was that if the site looked messy and unkept this would drive away new supporters of the centre, so it was critical for Freshfields that we help them to put their best foot forward and present their important work in the best light. Sadly, animal sanctuaries are often overlooked even though they care for any animal they find or receive and never turn away or put a healthy animal down. Many of us who went to help have pets of our own and we are all animal lovers, so it was a no brainer really.
It was a fantastic day with beautiful weather, we had the opportunity to meet the animals and staff to see exactly who we were helping. Every member of Ellison staff worked extremely hard with a smile on their face the entire time, we bonded as a team and learned things about each other that we never knew. I am extremely proud of the effort Ellison put into ensuring Freshfields looked its absolute best for its big day!”
