Piecing the Blocks

  1. Iron heart die-cut shapes onto white on white sashing fabric. Stitch around hearts.

  4. Sew (3) 3 1/2" x 9 1/2" rectangles together to form a 9 1/2" square. Repeat (7) times.

Assembling the Quilt

  1. To create quilt top row one: sew a pieced block, then a strip pieced block, repeat to form four blocks across.
  2. The white on white with hearts strip is row two.
  3. Row three: sew a strip pieced block, then a pieced block, repeat to form four blocks across.
  4. The white on white with hearts strip is row four.
  5. Repeat until all rows are formed.
  6. Sew rows together.
  7. To make borders, cut one long 3 1/2" strip in half. Sew this to two other long border strips making two longer strips approximately 57" long.
  8. Sew side borders first, then top and bottom strips.

Finishing

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
